Dr. John Durante has dedicated over 30 years to education as both a teacher and administrator. Since 2010, he has served as the proud principal of Syosset High School, where his leadership helped the school earn national recognition, including the U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon Award in 2016 — one of the highest honors a U.S. high school can receive. In 2025, he was honored with the John B. Muir Award by NACAC for his work making the college admissions process more transparent through The College Admissions Process Podcast. Under his guidance, Syosset continues to achieve academic excellence, and its graduates consistently reflect the school’s commitment to learning, leadership, and success.

Dr. Durante began his career at Syosset High School in 1994 as a world languages teacher. His passion for guiding students through the college admissions process, especially after helping his own daughters navigate their journeys, inspired him to launch The College Admissions Process Podcast in 2022. The podcast has since become a trusted resourcefor students, families, and college counselors seeking insight into the admissions process.

  • Best Principal on Long Island, awarded by Bethpage Federal Credit Union, 2016.

  • Distinguished Educator, recognized by the Harvard Club of Long Island, 2017. This honor was particularly meaningful, as it was based on a nomination from a former student who attended Harvard University.

  • Outstanding Achievement Award in Educational Leadership, awarded by St. John’s University, 2012. Dr. Durante received his Doctoral Degree from St. John’s University in 2005 in School Administration and Supervision.

  • Keynote Speaker, Department of European Languages, SUNY Stony Brook Commencement, 2014.

  • PTA Founders Day Award and the Jenkins Award for outstanding contributions to education.

Through his leadership and commitment to student success, Dr. Durante continues to positively impact students’ academic careers and their futures. His work, both as an educator and podcast host, reflects his unwavering dedication to helping others achieve their full potential.
